In episode #8 in our Cell Tower Podcast Series, Kevin Donohue of TSS-Wireless.com discusses how the wireless industry and cell phone service carriers in general have failed in their land use efforts.
Phone companies had experience in building telecom networks but not indoing grass-roots PR work. It's not a secret that cell phone companieshave done a terrible job in doing business with towns on thelocal level. Instead they have been lobbying at the state and nationallevels without reaching out properly to communities, resulting in excessive cell tower opposition.
One of the major land use and zoning issues still faced by cellular phone companies is picking the right site. A lot of trouble and opposition could be avoided by using common sense and communicating with town officials prior to submitting wireless application. Unfortunately in many cases cell tower sites are still forced onto municipalities, cellular companies are still failing to properly communicate with local governments and getting the proper input during site selection when that doesn't need to be the case in most instances.
Does your municipality or village need to speak with a cell tower consulting company with almost two decades of wireless industry experience? You can reach TSS and Kevin Donohue in New York at 845-359-5300.
